The youngest political prisoner in the world

Gedhun Choekyi Nyima when he was six years old.

In 1995, The Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people searched the reincarnation of the eleventh Panchen Lama in the traditional way. There were many people involved in this search including Chadrel  Rinpoche, a well respected Lama in Tibet.  He was the head of the Tashilumpo monastery after the tenth Panchen Lama passed away.  After an extensive search they finally found the eleventh Panchen Lama.  On May 14th in 1995 the Dalai Lama told the world that Gedhun Checkyi Nyima was indeed the 11th reincarnation of the Panchen Lama. Gedhun choekyi Nyima was a six year old.

Shortly after the Dalai Lama’s announcement Gedhun Choekyi Nyima  and his family and Chadrel Rinpochen simply disappeared.  Since then no one has seen Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and his family.  If his is alive, he is now 21 years old.

According Garnaut (6), Recently the Deputy Head of the Communisty party and Executive Vice Chairman of the Tibetan Autonomous region stated that Gedhun Choekyi Nyima and his family are alive and good condition.  The fact Gedhun Chockyi Nyima and his family and Rinpochen have been missing for 15 years is shocking. He is the world youngest political prisoner in the world.
